At the famous Knežak spring, a place that became a symbol of Halid Bešlić’s homeland thanks to the song “Romanija”, a memorial dedicated to one of the greatest folk music artists in this region was officially opened today.

Halid’s son Dino Bešlić also attended the opening ceremony. Numerous citizens, friends, admirers of his music and locals of Knežina gathered to pay tribute to the man who marked several generations with his voice, songs and humanity. It was precisely at the place that Halid Bešlić made recognizable throughout the Balkans with his verses that a permanent monument was erected as a sign of gratitude from his homeland.

The ceremony took place in a dignified atmosphere, with reminiscences about Halid’s life and rich musical career. Those gathered emphasized that Bešlić, despite his great popularity, always remained connected to his origins, often speaking with pride about Knežina and Romanija.

The memorial plaque features a photograph of the legendary Halid Bešlić, and the plaque reads: “You did not let the spring become muddy. Thank you, Halid. Your Knežina”.

The idea of erecting the memorial was initiated after his death, when locals expressed their desire for a lasting memory of the man who brought the name of this region far beyond the borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina to remain at Knežak Izvor. The initiative was met with great support from the public and numerous fans of his music.

During the ceremony, some of Halid’s most famous songs were performed, among which “Romanija” resonated particularly emotionally, which the gathered sang together.

From today on, the memorial plaque at Knežak Izvor will represent a place of gathering, remembrance and respect for the artist whose voice and songs remain part of the cultural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the entire region.

The Knežak spring, which thanks to Halid Bešlić became one of the most recognizable places in Romania, now bears a permanent reminder of the man who made it immortal with his songs.

The opening of this memorial has fulfilled the wish of many admirers that the memory of Halid Bešlić should remain permanently preserved exactly where, as many say, his life and artistic story began, Klix.ba writes.
