The High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, said that the new German government, led by Friedrich Merz, can be counted on to work closely with the international community to ensure peace, stability and progress in BiH.
During an informal but constructive meeting with Merz, the Federal Chancellor of Germany, they discussed the political and security situation in BiH, as well as broader developments in the Western Balkans region, the official X profile of the Office of the High Representative (OHR) reported.
As stated, the interlocutors share a long-standing view that transatlantic relations and European integration remain of great importance.
The High Representative pointed to recent challenges to the stability and functionality of state institutions coming from the ruling coalition in RS and reaffirmed the importance of respecting the Dayton Peace Agreement and preserving the integrity of state institutions.
Schmidt stressed the need for continued international engagement in support of reforms and democratic consolidation.
“Although the meeting was more oriented towards future cooperation and informal in nature, one can count on the new German government under Merz to work closely with the wider international community, including the Office of the High Representative, to ensure peace, stability and progress in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Schmidt concluded.
