After the information appeared in the public that there could be a large increase in electricity prices, after today’s session of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) it was said that there will be no increase in electricity prices for households and that the price increase refers only to small part of economic entities.
A regular, and then thematic session of the FBiH Government on the topic “Situation in the energy sector in the Federation of BiH” was held in Sarajevo today.
The session was attended by the Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry of FBiH Nermin Džindić, General Manager of Elektroprivreda BiH Admir Andelija, Executive Director for Production of Elektroprivreda HZHB Zoran Tabak and Executive Director for Capital Investments of Elektroprivreda BiH Senad Salkić. The session discussed the increase in electricity prices.
Minister Džindić said at the press conference that the prices of electricity were discussed today and that the representatives of the two power companies presented two models.
He said that Elektroprivreda HZHB submitted a model that is very simple and that he will see if that model will pass, and it is about limiting the upper limit of the price of electricity on the market supply.
“The discussion was constructive. We tried to define the advantages and disadvantages of both models. We instructed the relevant ministry to form a working group in 14 days, consisting of representatives of ministries, representatives of both power companies, the FBIH Energy Regulatory Commission (FERK) and the Competition council “, said Džindić, emphasizing that they should have a finalized model in 14 days.
Speaking about the model proposed by Elektroprivreda BiH, Džindić said that it was a step-by-step model of market supply.
Admir Andelija, General Manager of Elektroprivreda BiH, said that in recent months there has been a significant disruption in the electricity market and that forecasts are that stabilization will not occur before mid-2022.
“We have proposed to the Federation Government a model that, in our opinion, can pass when it comes to current legislation, and to solve most of the problems we have. We have proposed a step-by-step model of increasing the price of electricity, or a decision that will limit the price electricity, but also consumption. Both of these proposals have a basis in law, “said Andelija, adding:
“We plan to direct this possible surplus of revenues that EPBiH will achieve through price increases in a larger part towards increasing the price of coal, towards our mines in order to facilitate their business in these difficult times.”
Andelija added that there will be no increase in electricity prices for citizens.
“We underline, electricity will not become more expensive for the citizens. Electricity should become more expensive for a small part of economic entities, the largest part of economic entities will not have an increase in prices,” he said.
