The Greek Film “A Blast” at the Press Projection

silasSarajevo- the Greek film “A blast” by Syllas Tzoumerkas was screened today at the press projection at the National Theatre within the Competition program of the live action film of the 20th SFF.

It’s a story about a woman named Maria who escaped and rejected everything that was once important to her. Till yesterday she was a caring mother, loving wife and a responsible daughter and the next day already a fugitive.

The director of the film, Tzoumerkas, pointed out that this is, in a way, a film about illusions developed in one generation in Greece and that the story comprehends not only the personal breakdown of one family but the breakdown of society as well.

He also emphasized that he is very intrigued by the violence issues as a director, and that in this story, there is also violence, but not only among people, but the economic and politic violence as well.

“This is a story about a woman, and, in a way, a feminist story. It’s a story what to expect from a woman. It is fascinating that the actress in this film really leaves her family and her life. It was tempting to investigate what happens in that kind of a situation without judging it. It’s a very radical moment in her life but sometimes these kind of things are necessary.” – said Tzoumerkas.

The actress Angeliki Papoulia said that she was preparing that role for six months, along with the director, talking to him constantly about various aspects of the character to play.

“It was not difficult for me to open, as we did all this together, you can talk to Tzoumerkas about everything and not be judged.” – said Papoulia.

The film “A blast” will be shown tonight at the National Theatre.
