Around 60 photographs from entire Bosnia and Herzegovina gathered in an exhibition titled 20 years later – State of the Union: Photographic Journey through Post-Dayton B&H which was opened last night at the Sarajevo City Hall brings life stories spotted through the lens of the B&H photographer Zijah Gafić.
The photographs explore, document and represent B&H as it is 20 years after the war, thus opening broader social and political issues.
“This was an anthropological journey through places which are not necessarily of interest for media reports. These photographs deal with everyday life of ordinary man,” Gafić explained.
The exhibition was opened by the program coordinator of this project from “Pravo Ljudski” Festival Elma Selman, Deputy Mayor of Sarajevo Ranko Čović and representative of the US Embassy in B&H, which financially supported this project, Stephanie Altman-Winans.
Altman-Winans believes that this exhibition will enrich the cultural life of B&H, and it also represents all that B&H is and what it can become in the future.
With this project, Gafić and “Pravo Ljudski” invite the citizens to actively monitor their own environment, to escape the omnipresent daily-political matrix and question their own position in the context of different visions of social reality.
The exhibition will be opened for visitors until December 31.
