The Hungarian Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Krisztian Posa, made an official visit to the Municipality of Kakanj, where he met with local officials to discuss development projects in the economy, tourism, and environmental protection. The talks also explored potential cooperation with Hungarian communities, particularly in leveraging Hungary’s expertise in thermal water resources to support the development of a sports and recreation center and a spa resort in Ticici.
The visit was also prompted by Kakanj’s application for a project involving the installation of solar panels on religious buildings. Discussions included strengthening ties between Hungarian municipalities and Kakanj.
“We explored opportunities to enhance economic cooperation in a way that benefits both Hungarian companies and the local population,” said Ambassador Posa.
Kakanj Mayor Mirnes Bajtarevic highlighted the municipality’s interest in forming a partnership with a similar Hungarian municipality to improve operations. He also noted the existing successful collaborations between local businesses in Kakanj and Hungarian companies.
Hungary, known for its numerous thermal springs and spas, could serve as a model for Kakanj’s untapped thermal water source in Ticici. Although a study conducted 20 years ago confirmed the water’s medicinal properties, no infrastructure has been developed.
“We presented our challenges regarding the Ticici spa and expressed interest in learning from Hungary’s experience to develop a sustainable model for a similar facility here,” Bajtarevic stated.
Recognizing the potential, Kakanj plans to launch an initiative to develop a modern tourist complex at the site. However, this effort will require support from higher levels of government, European funding, and a suitable investor.
