Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán issued a decree banning foreigners from entering the country, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a few exceptions, it was published in the Official Gazette of that country. The ban, which will take effect on September 1, was announced last Friday, eKapija business portal reported.
Exceptions apply to government officials who organize official events, recipients of medical services, foreign students with a certificate that they study regularly, truck drivers on their way home, guests at family gatherings such as weddings and participants in sports, cultural or religious events.
Everyone who is allowed to enter Hungary must go to a two-week quarantine and be tested negative for the coronavirus virus twice. A two-week quarantine is also mandatory for Hungarians returning to the country from abroad.
In Hungary, 292 new coronavirus infections were reported within 24 hours on Sunday, the highest daily increase since the pandemic began in the country in March, Herald Mail Media reports.
The day before, 158 new infections were recorded on the government’s coronavirus website and 132 on Friday.
Until recently, the country with a population of 10 million was characterized by a rather low infection rate.
