The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, sent a video message to the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the occasion of Europe Day, emphasizing that the future of our country is inextricably linked to the European Union.
In his address, Costa emphasized the importance of the fundamental values on which the European project is based, recalling that unity and cooperation are the only path to stability.
“Today I address you as future members of the European Union. On Europe Day, we celebrate our common European project, when our founders chose unity over division and cooperation over conflict. They decided to build a future of peace, freedom and prosperity on the ashes of the Second World War,” Costa said.
Particular emphasis was placed on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s path to full membership. Costa called BiH citizens “future members of the European Union”, but clearly outlined what is needed for the next phase of integration.
“We believe that your future is in the European Union. A lot of hard work is being put into making this happen. The next step in your accession process is to open negotiations. You can achieve this if you manage to build a consensus in the country,” said the President of the European Council.
At the end of the message, Costa called for building a European future together with the message: “Long live Europe!”.
