The Israeli military confirmed the killing of Hashem Safieddine, the head of Hezbollah’s Executive Council, who was considered a potential successor to Hassan Nasrallah, the organization’s leader.

Safieddin was killed earlier this month in an Israeli air strike on Beirut, according to the Times of Israel.

Along with Safieddin, Ali Hussein Hazima, head of Hezbollah’s intelligence department, was also killed in the attack. The attack took place on October 4 and targeted the Hezbollah intelligence headquarters located in the southern suburb of Beirut, Dahiya, which the Israeli military describes as a civilian area.

According to the statement of the Israeli army, at the time of the attack, there were more than 25 members of Hezbollah’s intelligence unit in the headquarters, including other high-ranking commanders of that organization.
