The implementation of the European Court for Human Rights in the “Sejdić – Finci” case at the level of Sarajevo Canton is included in the amendments to the Resolution of the European Parliament on BiH and the amendments of the Committee of the Regions of the EU on BiH, according to a statement given in Brussels to BiH media by representative of Canton Sarajevo Dino Elezović, among which was “Sarajevo Times”.
Elezović noted that immediately after adoption of the amendment of the Canton Sarajevo Assembly tied to the implementation of the ruling, the Canton Presidency in Sarajevo informed Brussels of adoption of the amendment to all important EU institutions at their regular meetings, in particular the EU Parliament and the EU Committee of the Regions.
Implementation of the “Sejdić-Finci” ruling at the level of Sarajevo Canton was welcomed by the European Parliament Delegation for Western Balkans and by Doris Pack, the Rapporteur for BiH, in a way in which the representatives of leading political parties in the European Parliament- Emine Bozkurt, Tanja Fajon (Socialists), Jelko Kacin (liberal), Eduard Kukan, Doris Pack, Anna Ibrišagić (EPP), Marie Cornellisen (Greens) –made amendments to the Resolution of the EU Parliament on BiH. It also states that Canton Sarajevo is the first BiH institution to implement the ruling.
The proposed amendments to the Resolution of the EU Parliament would be adopted mid-March by the Parliamentary Commission for EU Foreign Policy, while the resolution of the final version would be adopted at a plenary session of the European Parliament mid-April.
The same amendments have been proposed to the Committee of the Regions of the EU on BiH, from Franz Schusberger and Luca van den Brand, the political reporters of the Committee of the Regions of the EU for BiH. The Committee would give its opinion on the adoption at the plenary session in April.
“The fact that Sarajevo Canton is the first institution in BiH that implemented the ruling in its Constitution shows that lower levels of government in BiH can contribute to the process of EU integration’’, suggested Elezović.
