Medicine in BiH is Safe

Citizens should not be afraid of the frequent withdrawal of some drugs from the market, because until now in BiH there are no reported cases of side effects from these drugs, said the Director of the Agency for Medicine and Medicinal Products of BiH Nataša Grubiša.

“Citizens have to adhere to the instructions of their doctor, to take medicine that are prescribed to them and to not be afraid that there would be potential side effects’’, said Grubiša.

She said for “Nezavisne Novine” that a big problem is the sale of drugs via the Internet is that it is impossible to stop , and in particular the sale of diet pills, for sexual dysfunction and another hormonal problems, which are very dangerous.

“Diklofenak would not be withdrawn from the market, because it refers to the expected undesired side effects. This means that the side effect is found in the instructions. Every drug, including ‘Diklofenak’, is efficient and safe within the prescribed instructions, precautions and warnings in the manual and should be followed’’, said Grubiša.

She explained that the agency received notices of side effects from doctors and pharmacists, and that is it mostly dealt with anti-cancer drugs, with the anticipated adverse effects, or that three medicines have been combined and produced an adverse effect.

“When we receive these notices, we send them to the Collaborating Center of the World Health Organization that monitors the safe use of medicine. They then assess whether the side effect of the drug would be placed in the user’s manual or withdrawn from the market. This year, we have had 17 registered cases of side effects, but they are already well-known and expected’’, said Grubiša.
