Most young people over the age of 25 who have recently left Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) have emigrated to the European Union (EU) countries.

”We do not have data on how many young people have left BiH recently, but according to the data of the host countries, the countries to which our residents emigrate most often are EU countries (Germany, Croatia, Austria, Slovenia, etc.), ” it was said to agency Fena from the BiH Agency for Statistics.

When it comes to youth unemployment in our country, the Labor Force Survey 2020 shows that those aged 20 to 24 with a high school diploma are in the lead.

The largest number of young people who have completed high school, college, master’s, and doctorate, and are unemployed, are between 25 and 29 years old.

This survey also shows that a large number of young people who are unemployed (aged 20 to 39) have only completed primary school or are without school.

The Agency noted that this is data from the Labor Force Survey conducted in accordance with EU regulations and should not be compared with data from the records of the Employment Service due to methodological differences.

Besides that, a large number of young people in our country still live with their parents. We have not been able to obtain more recent data, but there are almost 200.000 those who are older than 30 and still live with their parents, according to the latest census.

”According to the data from the 2013 Census of Population, Households, and Dwellings, out of the total number of persons aged 30 and over, 186.090 live with their parents. This number includes persons living with both parents or only one, and both marital and extramarital communities were observed, ” it was mentioned by the Agency for Statistics of BiH.
