The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohamed Baker Kalibaf, said today that Iran will respond to any attack by the United States with strikes on Israel and American military bases in the region.

In an address to the parliament, Kalibaf said that Iran warns US President Donald Trump that any US attack would lead to Tehran retaliating with strikes against Israel and regional US military bases as legitimate targets.

Israeli sources said that Israel is on high alert for the possibility of US intervention to support the protests that have been taking place across Iran since December 28 due to the weakening of the Iranian currency and the difficult economic situation.

Protests continued in the streets of cities in Iran, and thousands of people protested in Tehran during the night and this morning.

The US-based Human Rights Activists organization reported this morning that more than 570 protests were held in 31 Iranian provinces.

Health workers in three hospitals in Iran said today that in their institutions there are a large number of dead or injured in large anti-government protests in that country.

According to human rights organizations, at least 116 people have been killed in Iran in the past two weeks.

The United States reiterated on Friday, January 9, that the killing of protesters in Iran could trigger military intervention, while Iran blamed the US for turning peaceful protests into violent subversive acts and vandalism.
