Bosnia and Herzegovina will have its representatives at the Ironman triathlon which is to be held in Austria in June this year.
It is a very demanding discipline where participants swim, ride a bike and run. It all takes a lot of strength and skills in order to endure this one-day competition and achieve enviable results. The months-long period of hard training is even tougher than the competition itself and made more difficult because of the winter.
The ironman triathlon includes swimming in the length of 3.8 kilometers, riding a bike for 180 kilometers and running for 42,195 meters. The final section consists of running the marathon which is a challenge for itself because it is one of the hardest sports in the world.
“Training for the Ironman triathlon requires a lot of will, sacrifice and organization, because in our case we are not speaking about professional triathletes, but very busy managers and we will have to make our full daily schedules even tighter and include at least 15 hours of training per week. The first half of the year will be very demanding. Until June 2016 we have to train twice per day nearly every day of the week. In late June we will go to that competition. Temperatures can reach 40 degrees with ease and in the period between 11 and 15 hours we will cross 226 kilometers as fast as possible and without making breaks,” Erol Mujanović explained.
“Each of the three sections has a defined period for completion, so if you are a world champion in running or cycling but you are a slow swimmer, you can still be eliminated from the competition. You cannot underestimate any of the three disciplines,” Tomislav Cvitanušić added.
