Is Bankruptcy being prepared in the Mines in BiH?

The miners of the Kreka coal mine in Tuzla gathered yesterday in front of the directorate building, claiming that bankruptcy is being prepared, for which there is a decision. On the other hand, the management of the mine states that they do not have information about a possible bankruptcy and that such a decision has not officially reached them.

The story of the possible bankruptcy in Kreka was started two days ago when the Independent Union of Mine Workers of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) sent a letter to the Government of FBiH, the relevant federal ministry, and the general director and vice president of the Supervisory Board of Elektroprivreda BiH (EPBiH) Admir Andelija and Izet Zigic. In the letter, they request that the activities on the implementation of the decision on the bankruptcy of the Kreka Coal Mine and the Zenica Brown Coal Mine be stopped, which, they state, was passed by the Supervisory Board of the EPBiH.

On this occasion, the Kreka miners together with a group of chambers from Zenica gathered in Tuzla yesterday, with a strong message that they will not allow bankruptcy and that, if necessary, they will give their lives for the survival of production.

”At the 349th session of the FBiH Government, one of the items on the agenda was the request of the EPBiH and the decision of the Supervisory Board of the EPBiH to initiate bankruptcy proceedings in the Kreka and Zenica mines. According to the conclusion, the federal government stated that it is not competent to grant the requested approval for the initiation of pre-bankruptcy, i.e. bankruptcy proceedings for the mines that are part of the EPBiH concern,” said the president of the Kreka Workers’ Union Zuhdija Tokic.

Tokic is explicit that bankruptcy will not be initiated in Kreka, but not in Zenica either. As he says, if anyone tries to do something about it, that is, if they lose their existence, they don’t even need their lives. He also reminded that the miners in November 2021 showed the authorities a brutal response to much smaller problems than the one that is present now.

”I don’t want to talk about bankruptcy. There is no bankruptcy! Mr. Andelija and Zigic, introduce bankruptcies in your confectioneries and companies in which you have a majority share of capital. You will never do this in any mine in the FBiH because the miners will not allow it. For the past three days, people, miners have been walking as if without a head, going to work doing extremely hard work, knowing that the coal they produce is sold for a pittance,” Tokic added, Klix.ba reports.
