Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sarr thanked US President Donald Trump today for his announcement that he would unblock the delivery of 900-kilogram bombs.
“The region is safer when Israel has what it needs to defend itself,” the Israeli minister wrote on the X platform.
The administration of former US President Joseph Biden last year suspended the delivery of 1,800 900-kilogram bombs to Israel, warning that their use would cause “great human tragedy.”
Trump said on Saturday that many of the items ordered by Israel are now being delivered. The US president made the remarks after media reports that he had approved the delivery of 900-kilogram bombs.
“Many of the items ordered and paid for by Israel, but not sent by Biden, are now on their way,” the US president wrote on his Truth Social platform.
A ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas came into effect a week ago, with the aim of finally ending the war in the Gaza Strip, which was sparked by Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
Trump’s message did not mention the specific weapons being sent to Israel.
However, the American website Axios reported that security journalist Barak Ravid said that Trump had ordered the Defense Department to lift the ban on the delivery of 900-kilogram bombs.
During his first term, Trump often boasted that Israel “has never had a better friend in the White House,” a claim echoed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
