The Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo (KCUS) is organizing a professional program dedicated to robotically assisted minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgeries, with the aim of educating local doctors and presenting modern surgical approaches that could become part of standard medical practice in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The program is being implemented in cooperation with the Azorg Hospital in Aalst (Belgium) and includes professional lectures, as well as demonstration surgeries with live broadcast from the operating room, which enables direct knowledge exchange between local and international experts.

“This is the first time that this form of education and demonstration surgeries in the field of robotically assisted surgery has been organized in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Our goal is to create conditions through education and cooperation for such procedures to become available to our patients in the near future, so that they can receive top-notch healthcare services. This approach brings concrete benefits through more precise procedures, faster recovery, and overall better quality treatment,” said Alen Pilav, General Director of KCUS.

As part of the program, Alexandre Mottrie, founder of the ORSI Academy, one of the world’s leading centers for education in the field of robotic-assisted surgery, will give an introductory lecture on the advantages of this approach, which represents the most advanced form of minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery. After the lecture, Mottrie will perform a robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy with a live broadcast from the operating room, after which an expert discussion with the participants is planned.

In the continuation of the program, Jan Colpaert, a colorectal surgeon from Azorg Hospital, will perform a robotic-assisted minimally invasive rectosigmoid colon resection, also with a live broadcast and interactive discussion. The program is intended for doctors in the fields of urology, abdominal, gynecological and thoracic surgery, with the aim of directly exchanging knowledge and experiences.

Surgeons from hospitals and clinical centers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as from countries in the region, have announced their participation in the program, which further confirms the importance of this event for the professional medical community.
