The Laboratory System of the International Commission for Missing Persons (ICMP) started fully functioning this month after being relocated from Sarajevo to The Hague, as confirmed by Sasa Kulukic, the spokesperson of the ICMP.

He also added that it cannot be specified when the first DNA from the Hague can be expected in BiH, but they are working very hard in order to realize it as soon as possible. To recall, the latest DNA results from the ICMP laboratory arrived at the Missing Persons Institute of BiH in the month of December last year.

Kada Hotic, a member of the Association ” Movement of Mothers of Srebrenica and Zepa Enclaves” stated that they have regular meetings with representatives of ICMP.

“Almost nothing has changed since their laboratory was moved. We received the information that the laboratory could move from Sarajevo a few years ago due to some financial problems. The Netherlands offered them a large space for free. Now we are hoping that DNA results will arrive from The Hague as soon as possible because there are still a large number of families that are looking for their beloved ones,” noted Hotic.

Lejla Cengic, the spokeswoman for the Missing Persons Institute of BiH, stated once again that five mass graves were found last year.

“We are planning to start with exhumations  by the end of this or at the beginning of the next month, depending on weather conditions and the agreement with the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH. We will return to the pit Mandra in the territory of Rogatica, which was found last year, as well as the mass grave Tugovo in Vlasenica. It is also possible that we will do some work in Srebrenica as well, because we received certain information that need to be checked. DNA results for Tugovo came even before the ICMP laboratory was moved, and so far, 7 out of 11 victims have been identified. Remains found in the locality of Jelovacka cesma, where two mass graves were found, were not identified, and there are also remains found in Foca, Miljevina tomb and Koricanske stijene. The latest DNA results from the ICMP laboratory arrived in the month of December last year,” stated Cengic.
