During the fair in Mbour, 100 kilometers from the capital of Senegal, Dakar, “Ladoum” sheep are sold at a price of 90,000 dollars.

The sheep, also known as the “king of sheep”, has been sold for years at prices that exceed the prices of luxury cars, and for the population of Senegal, this breed is “more than a sheep”.

This breed was created from a mixture of “Toubaire” from Mauritania and “Balibali” from Mali.

Standing 1.5 meters tall and weighing around 170 kilograms, the “Ladoum” looks more like a small horse than a sheep, and is considered a sign of prestige in West Africa.

At the fair, before the great Muslim holiday of Kurban Bayram, buyers were offered sheep of this breed of different colors and characteristics.

Unlike other sheep and rams, “Ladoumi” are not slaughtered in markets, but in specially prepared comfortable rooms.

In addition, “Ladoumi” are used for breeding purposes to beautify other breeds. In almost all regions of Senegal, various competitions are held to select the most beautiful “Ladoum”, AA writes.
