Thousands of Hezbollah supporters took to the streets of Lebanon on Thursday evening to protest against the latest government decision regarding weapons.

In the northeastern city of Baalbek, demonstrators waved Hezbollah flags and attacked the Lebanese Prime Minister, chanting: “Nawaf Salam is a Zionist” and “We want the fall of the government.”

Demonstrations were recorded in the capital, Beirut, and the cities of Tyre, Sidon, Al-Hermel, and Nabatieh. Participants stated that they are “holding on to the weapons of resistance,” claiming it is “an element of strength in the conflict with Israel.” Alongside the Hezbollah protests, demonstrators from the Shia Amal party, a close ally of the movement, also joined. They waved the party’s green flags.

In the city of Tyre, Hezbollah supporters held a large convoy of vehicles and motorcycles. During the rally, they waved Hezbollah flags and banners of Hassan Nasrallah and Imam Musa al-Sadr. Protesters claimed that “external dictates will not pass.”

There are currently no reports of clashes on the streets, but military units are in a state of high alert in several areas in preparation for handling emergency situations. Some forces have begun deploying in the streets.

Two days ago, the Lebanese government made a decision to approve the objectives of the United States (U.S.) plan. According to the roadmap recently delivered by envoy Tom Barrack, the Lebanese army will disarm Hezbollah.

The Lebanese government explained that this is a gradual process and that they are waiting for the army to submit a plan and schedule. The decision was made after five Shia ministers in the government, four of whom are from Hezbollah and Amal, left the meeting before it concluded.
