The Alliance of Citizens of BiH in Norway held an election session where Miralem Becirovic was elected for the new president of the association. Becirevic is a long-time activist and he has been leading the institute of sevdah in Norway for years.

The meeting took place in the premises of the Embassy of BiH in Oslo, and the Ambassador of BiH, Nedim Makarevic, emphasized the importance of this largest organization of citizens of BiH in Norway. The Alliance was registered back in 2002 in Oslo and it has about 12,000 members. The Alliance includes 16 associations, clubs, societies, religious organizations, and other forms of organization of citizens of BiH in the Kingdom of Norway.

“The Alliance of ACBiH in is the strongest legitimate representative of our citizens in Norway and only with this kind of strength we can adequately represent them in Norway, but in all spheres of social life,” said Ambassador Makarevic.

The main tasks of the Alliance of Association of Citizens of BiH in Norway are the representation of common interests to the authorities and institutions in Norway and BiH, the strengthening of the reputation of BiH in the Norwegian society and nurturing Bosnian language, culture and traditions of BiH. The Alliance is also working on the cooperation with other organizations, organizing cultural and sports manifestations, different courses, seminars and lectures, but also humanitarian actions and it is actively participating in the process of returning to BiH.

Ambassador Makarevic noted that these tasks should be a main priority in the future period as well.

“Only well organized, we can realize planned projects, which are projects that are in the interest of all citizens of BiH in the Kingdom of Norway,” concluded Ambassador Makarevic.
