On this date 40 years ago, on August 15, 1976, the Sarajevo football club Željezničar played a friendly match against the FC Arsenal from London. The great Arsenal was a guest on Grbavica on the occasion of the marking of 55th birthday of the FC Željezničar. The result was 1-1. Striker of the only goal for Željezničar was Džemal Šerbo. Arsenal did not play as well as the Sarajevo audience expected. long passes, high jumps, precise shots and sharp hits towards the goal of the Blues were missing.
In its rich history, Željezničar played against many famous clubs. Inter Milan was a guest on Koševo for the 50th birthday of the FC Željezničar. That match was played on June 16, 1971, and it ended with the result of 3-3. On September 19, 1969, FC Željezničar played a friendly match against the Brazilian Santos, the club which was led by one of the best football players in the world of all times – Pele. Team of Santos was then the triple world champion. The match against Santos was played on the occasion of the marking of the 47th anniversary of the Blues.
