Until today, Lionel Messi (36) held the record for the biggest contract in the history of sports, and now he has been surpassed by the Japanese baseball player Shohei Ohtani (29).
In 2017, the Argentine football player signed a four-year contract with Barcelona with a total income of around 555 million euros. This weekend, Ohtani managed to sign an even more impressive contract than that.
Shohei Ohtani announced on Instagram that he has signed a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and according to the British press, the Japanese signed a 10-year contract worth an incredible 650 million euros, surpassing Messi’s record.
Messi’s contract is still more valuable on a per-season basis given that his salary was for four years, but the total sum the Japanese will collect is the biggest ever in the history of the sport.
The Japanese player has been playing in the United States (U.S.) since 2018 and is considered the best player of the championship.
The Los Angeles Dodgers team was last champion in 2020 and they are hoping that the three-time All-Star will bring them back to the throne, Klix.ba reports.
