Mike Waltz out as National Security Adviser

White House National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and his deputy Alex Wong are leaving those positions, several well-informed sources said.

Waltz was in the public spotlight in March after he created a chat on the Signal platform and mistakenly included journalist Jeffrey Goldberg from “The Atlantic,” and in the chat were discussions among top United States (U.S.) national security officials about plans for attacks on targets of the Yemeni Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Goldberg published the planned time of the attack on the Houthis and what weapons would be used.

After Waltz admitted behind closed doors the authenticity of the report, White House officials discussed whether he should resign, but Waltz never made such an offer.

At that time, U.S. President Donald Trump did not ask Waltz to step down and publicly gave him his support.

During Trump’s first term, Wong was deputy special representative for North Korea and also deputy assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs at the State Department.

Trump said that Wong helped in negotiations with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
