Minors that are convicted for petty criminal acts in Canton Sarajevo will soon be serving sentences in one of the three soup kitchens.

Government officials of Canton Sarajevo and soup kitchen representatives will sign a cooperation agreement on Monday, announced Minister of Justice of Sarajevo Canton Mario Nenadic to Fena agency.

He emphasized that this is the first time that the Criminal Law of Federation of BiH provides the implementation of special measures for minors and it is considered as a major and important step in alternatives to criminal sanctions.
”This work is without any payment, with no profit, since the soup cuisine is a non-profit organization. The work can be set for 120 hours during six months, ” he said, adding that the measure was pronounced by the competent judge, while the leader of this project needs to control and report to the judge on the implementation of this measure.
He emphasized that a judge for minors may pronounce such sentence for small crimes and if he considers that this punishment will educate the minor and contribute to his socialization.

”We have created a warrant that should help eliminate harmful consequences of the crime committed by a minor. This is a simple, but adequate measure to improve the minor socialization, ” Nenadic said.

Minister of the Labour, Social Policy, Displaced Persons and Refugees of the Canton Sarajevo Amela Dautbegovic emphasized that this agreement is part of the established Action Plan for the prevention of minor delinquency and working with minors through contact with the Judicial System 2017-2019.
”Since our Ministry finances the work of soup kitchens, those who responded voluntarily are the Soup Kitchen of Stari Grad, the Red Cross and Caritas, ” the minister said.
