Nermina_Mekic_PietersThe 26-year-old model from BiH, Nermina Mekic-Pieters, and her husband Erik Pieters, the player for the national football team of the Netherlands and a regular first team player of Stoke City, marked their first wedding anniversary in Sarajevo.

They both stated that Sarajevo represents a challenge for them and they always find something new to see and visit, and staying in the capital city of our country is a unique opportunity for them to visit their family and friends, due to their enormous obligations.

Football fans know a lot of things about Erik Pieters, and they were pleased to find out that he donated his jersey three weeks ago for medical treatment of young football player Muhamed Talic from Sanski Most.

That jersey will go on the auction soon, and he promised to donate a pair of football boots with his name engraved on them for some of the following humanitarian actions of this type.

However, Nermina is not lagging behind her husband when it comes to sports activities, and she is engaged in equestrian sports that are very demanding and tiring, and sometimes even quite dangerous.

“I started to ride in the Netherlands, where I went as a refugee with my parents when I was only six years old, and horses are my great love ever since. I have two horses at the moment, one of them is more than 20 years old and well trained and the other one is seven years old and in his top form, and I regularly compete with him. This sport is very popular in the Netherlands, the Republic of Ireland, England, France, Germany and all of these countries have excellent conditions for competition and improvement. I am regularly competing in England and I managed to achieve a number of significant results so far, and if I continue training like this, I am hoping to be among the biggest stars of this sport in a few years.”

“As all other citizens of BiH in Diaspora, my wish is to represent my country at one of the major competitions one day as well. My coach Irishman said that I will be ready for that in about two years, and in the meantime, I am planning to contact the Equestrian Union of BiH and find some information about the procedure and the way of becoming part of the national team of BiH,” said Nermina Mekic-Pieters.
