Mostar is getting a Cable Car

The Austrian company Leitner, which is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of cable cars, has submitted a draft of the cable car project that would go up to Hum Hill in Mostar.

According to information, the idea is to connect Hum Hill, which is the central elevation above the city, with a sort of checkpoint, a place where most tourists pass by heading towards the historic city center and the Old Bridge.

“In addition to being an attraction in itself, this investment, which would be in the millions of euros, in case it is realized, would enable the realization of numerous facilities that are not unknown in other areas, from the construction of rest areas, restaurants, amusement parks and other facilities that would then consequently employ new people,” it was stated, adding that the final decision on this project will be made by the City Council.

Marin Culjak, the adviser to the mayor Mario Kordic, who is one of the authors of projects related to tourism, confirmed that several options are being considered, one of which is that the starting station of the cable car should be in the parking area not far from the church of Saints Peter and Paul, that is, the Franciscan monastery, where the largest number of tourists come by bus to the city on the River Neretva.

“We went with the logic that the starting point should be close to where tourists come. Traveling by cable car to Hum, one could perfectly see the panorama of Mostar, especially the historic part of the city, the old core, and the Old Bridge,” says Culjak.

The Austrian company Leitner, which built most of the cable cars at ski resorts throughout Austria and a significant part of Europe, as well as tourist centers around the world, delivered three offers to Mostar with different capacities for transferring passengers to the top of Hum.

The goal is to transfer passengers from approximately 25 meters above sea level, where Mostar is located, to an elevation of 400 meters, i.e. Hum Hill.

“The construction of the cable car would not burden the city budget in any way. There are a large number of models of how this project can be realized. Even the companies that do it operationally are interested in taking part of the risk because it is very small,” Culjak pointed out and stated that the experiences of cities that have cable cars speak of their profitability, Biznis Info reports.
