Mostar will be connected to major European Cities by Air

From May, the city of Mostar will be connected to major European cities such as Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Vienna, Amsterdam, Paris, Munich, Zurich, and London by air via Zagreb.

Namely, on the official website of the Mostar Airport, a public call was published for the provision of regular international scheduled air transport services on the route Mostar-Zagreb-Mostar, and the deadline for receiving offers is March 21st until 10:00. After landing in Zagreb, passengers will have the opportunity in a short period of time to fly to some of the already mentioned European cities and vice versa, which will connect Mostar with the rest of Europe.

The Mayor of Mostar, Mario Kordic, stated that the Mostar Airport is a strategic public enterprise that will open up new opportunities for tourists to come to the City of Mostar, as well as businessmen and that the entire region could rise in terms of tourism, business, economy and in every other sense.

“This is one of the attempts to help Mostar Airport to start regular flights. It is often reported in the media that Mostar Airport is not functioning. This is not true, the charter flights we had last year after a mild pandemic recovery, we have this year as well, as well as the increase of those lines. The main premise was to establish one of the regular lines in order to have contact with one of the major airports that further have a connection with entire Europe, with the whole world,” said the mayor.

Flights three times a week

The mayor points out that through the Public Call, it is requested that there be flights at least three times a week, of which at least two flights would be in the morning hours so that passengers from Mostar could catch connecting flights to further destinations.

“Investigating the market for departures from Zagreb further, we estimated that it should be Friday, Wednesday, and Monday, and that is how we defined it in the Public Call. If an interested airline comes forward, and we expect that they will, that would concretely mean that you leave Mostar at 6 in the morning for Zagreb, where you arrive at 7 a.m., and then from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., which is an acceptable waiting time in Zagreb, you catch all connecting flights such as, for example, Frankfurt, Munich, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Barcelona, etc,” he explained.

Cheaper tickets

“There are our wishes and thoughts that the tickets should be significantly cheap so that people use these flights. We had a similar attempt a few years ago, but with a bad selection of slots at that time, where the return ticket Zagreb-Mostar was 119 euros. That will be our goal, but it is too early to talk about it because it is a matter of negotiations with a company that will eventually express interest in flying to Mostar,” the mayor of Mostar stated.

In the end, he noted that this is not the Mostar-Zagreb-Mostar line, but rather the Mostar-Amsterdam line via Zagreb, Mostar-London via Zagreb, Mostar-Paris via Zagreb, etc.
