Salaries for employees of the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in the last five and a half years have cost 2.87 billion BAM, which is almost the entire budget of Republika Srpska, one of the two entities in BiH, according to the “Glas Srpske”.

The sum of pays from 2012 until the end of 2016 increased by 8.4 million BAM and that trend will likely continue, according to the information about the budget of the institutions of BiH for the first half of this year, according to the same source.

263.2 million BAM was allocated for salaries in the first six months of this year, which is about half a million more than in the same period of last year.

The article says that the ministries, offices, agencies, directions and other institutions, of which there are 75 in total, more than 22,000 people work, mostly in the Ministry of Defense of BiH with almost 10,000.

According to the “Glas Srpske”, the most money was given two years ago when 527.89 million BAM was allocated for salaries, which was justified by the heads of the institutions by the addition of new employees, changes in the pay schemes and new taxes after the floods.
