The best athlete from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Amel Tuka, won the 800-meter title as expected today, on the second day of the Senior National Championship at the Kamberovića Polje Athletic Stadium in Zenica, while Ajla Reizbegović from Tuzla broke the 26-year-old record of Dijana Kojić in the 200-meter race.
The member of AK Sloboda Tehnograd ran this event today in a time of 24.42 seconds, while the previous record was 24.43. Kojić, as a junior, ran the aforementioned time on July 24, 1999 in the Greek city of Komotini, when the new BiH senior record holder had not even been born. Reizbegović was born on October 8, 1999, and she also holds the BiH senior record for the 60 meters with a time of 7.51. Reizbegović also won the 100 m race yesterday with a time of 12.14 seconds.
Tuka easily won with a time of 1:49.77, and immediately after the end of the 800 m race the competition was interrupted due to heavy rain. It continued even in the rain after more than half an hour.
With this victory, Tuka won new points in the ranking and made a new step towards the norm for participation in the Tokyo World Championships, which will be held from 13-21 September. This year, he ran the 800 m fastest in 1:44.91.
With the best result of this season – 20.56 meters, as well as the sixth consecutive title of senior champion of BiH, the right to participate in the World Championships in Japan was definitely acquired yesterday by Zenica shot putter Mesud Pezer, who fulfilled the norm for participation based on the rating.
The norm in shot put is 21.50 meters, while Pezer holds record of 21.48 meters, which he achieved in 2019. Tuka, on the other hand, will chase the norm for 800 meters of 1:44.50, that is, the rating on the world scale among 56 middle distance runners. Tuka’s record, which he set in 2015, is a fantastic 1:42.51.
From yesterday’s results, it is worth mentioning the fact that the member of AK Sarajevo, Nermin Štitkovac, who was second in the shot put, threw 20 meters for the first time in his career, that is, he raised a new personal record to 20.01 meters.
Young shot putter from Zenica and member of the Bosnian national team Mejrema Baručija, who just turned 16 on July 26, won the senior women’s competition yesterday with a throw of 14.42 meters, improving her personal best and setting the national junior record (U20). Baručija is also the Bosnian junior record holder for younger junior women (U18) with a 3 kg shot put, which is 16.41 m, which she achieved at the recent National Junior Women’s Championship in Tuzla, Fena news agency writes.
