Two American military aircraft will fly over Dubrovnik on Monday, as part of a campaign over the airspace of several Southeast European countries that aims to highlight the “commitment” that the United States, together with NATO members, is providing to the war in Ukraine, the US command announced.
The army’s press release states that on Monday afternoon, British B-52 Stratofortress bombers will fly over some cities in Southeast Europe in a low flight.
Around 14:35, the planes will fly over the capital of North Macedonia, Skopje, and then Skanderbeg square in the center of the capital of Albania, Tirana. After that, it will fly over the Montenegrin coast and will fly over the airspace over Dubrovnik at around 15:10 local time.
However, as Flightradar24, a site specialized in tracking aircraft flights, shows, the B-52 Stratofortress bomber has already flown over Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the flight ended in Hungary.
“The purpose of each overflight is to demonstrate the commitment and assurance of the United States’ security to its NATO allies and partners located in Southeast Europe,” as the war in Ukraine enters its seventh month with little hope of an imminent peace.
NATO believes that the Russian invasion of Ukraine at the end of February resulted in the expansion and imminent accession of Sweden and Finland to the alliance. The two European countries thus renounced their traditional neutrality.
Their candidacy for the NATO accession process has already been ratified by the United States and more than half of the 30 NATO members.
