Four children were injured in the attack in Liverpool, a spokesman for the Ambulance Service confirmed.
Dave Kitchin said 20 people were treated for minor injuries. 27 were taken to hospital, with two, including a child, seriously injured. In addition, a large number of people of all ages were treated at the scene and did not require hospital treatment.
“Crews were treated for a number of injuries and four people were trapped under the vehicle. They quickly lifted the vehicle, extracted three adults and a child from under the vehicle and handed them over to our colleagues from the emergency services,” said Nick Searle, chief fire officer.
The incident is not being treated as terrorism, confirmed Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Simms.
Liam Robinson, leader of Liverpool City Council, appealed to people not to share the horrific footage of the incident on social media.
“If you have any information, please pass it on to Merseyside Police to assist them with their investigation. We will not be commenting further, but will provide relevant information as soon as we know more and when appropriate,” Robinson concluded.
