kovaciThe Islamic Community in BiH decided that the headquarters of the Reis-ul-Ulema and the central authorities of the Islamic community in Kovaci, or a building that is under construction, will not have residential but administrative character. A new donor is found, and works should be continued very soon.

“Before some time, we decided to convert the premises, which are planned as residential, into the administration. All administration of Rijaset, directorates and other services, after completion of construction, will be placed under one roof,” said Bilal Memisevic, Head of economic affairs of Directorate for economic and financial affairs of the Islamic community in BiH.

Construction of the administrative building of the IC in BiH started in February 2009 and the decision on the construction of permanent headquarters of the IC in BiH in Sarajevo settlement Kovaci was made on the 26th of June 2007. They were building for 2 years, but there was not enough money so everything was stopped.

The foundation stone for the new building was laid in September 2008 and works should be completed by the end of 2011.

After months in which the construction was completely suspended because of the lack of money, recently was worked with architects in order to redesign the building to adapt it to the new needs.

“This work is coming to an end, as well as talks with potential donor for the continuation of the construction,” said Memisevic.

He notes that the public will be informed on who is the new donor that will finance the completion of the construction within 2 months.

In the object was invested about 2.5 million BAM so far, and for completion of the works is required at least 10 million BAM.

The biggest waqif (donor) so far is Muammar Gaddafi, or Libya. After Gaddafi, the largest donors are local businessmen including Nihad Imamovic, Edin Arslanagic, Nedim Causevic, Muhammad Granov, Nijaz Orman, Fahrudin Radoncic, Redzo Bekto, Selver Oruc and many others.

Gaddafi promised 5 million EUR, and the entire complex was supposed to be called after him. However, after his death, the works were entirely suspended.
