The Heinrich Boll Foundation in BiH, together with partner organizations Sarajevo Open Center and the CURE Foundation launched the implementation of the project that is financed by the European Unions entitled ‘Coming out! Advocacy and Protection of LGBT People’.
The main objective of the project is to promote advocacy and protection of one of the most discriminated and invisible groups in BiH society-lesbians, gay men, bisexual people and transgender people. One of the goals of the project is finding out the causes of homophobia, how to decrease discrimination and to eventually eliminate it.
A particular focus will be placed on raising awareness of civil servants that work in the field of internal affairs, justice, health and education, and in other target groups such as journalists and representatives of civil societies.
Activities will also be organized, such as trainings, roundtables and advocacy and media campaigns to increase the visibility of LGBT questions. The central part of the project represents a diverse range of research and the first regional conference on LGBT rights in BiH.
The European Union is financing this project for 204.123,90 euros (399.231,65 KM) from the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR), and the project will be carried out from 2013-2014.
