bicycle lane

Construction works on the first phase of the bicycle lane in the area of the municipality Novi Grad, which is more than four kilometers long, are largely ongoing. Its construction will establish one-way bicycle traffic on both sides of the main city longitudinal, on the principle of separating cyclists from the motor traffic. The construction is being financed by the City of Sarajevo and the Directorate for roads of Canton Sarajevo.

It means that this summer, the Municipality Novi Grad will be the first municipality in B&H to have a bicycle lane of European standards.

The fact that the construction works on the left side of the future lane on the section Dom penzionera – Nedzarici, direction Ilidza-city, have been completed, is evidence that workers of the enterprise “Rad“ are working rapidly. Construction of the lane and the painting of the surface are finished on this section. The horizontal markings and installation of the vertical traffic signals are yet to be completed. As well, earthworks from Nedzarici towards Otoka are currently ongoing.

In order to make the vicinity even more beautiful and functional, the Municipality Novi Grad has financed the installation of benches and the planting of hedges along the right side of the bicycle lane, for the length of 780 meters. The aim is to separate the bicycle and pedestrian traffic from the motor traffic. The Municipality Novi Grad also plans the construction of a rest area near the Olympic Pool Otoka, where wireless internet will be available.
