Numerous educational Workshops for Students and Teachers held in Doboj

EU Info Centre, in cooperation with the European Union National Institute for Culture in BiH (EUNIC) marked the European Day of Languages in Doboj City Park. Numerous educational workshops for students and teachers, foreign language crash courses and other interactive activities were organized for all language enthusiasts.

Rich linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe with more than 200 languages daily spoken was promoted through interactive workshops and presentations with students of primary and high schools from Doboj. EU Info Centre organized a workshop “Let’s Make it Clear” during which a polyglot, Dragan Kekić, practiced translation of proverbs from English, Spanish and Swedish to local languages. The aim of the workshop was to highlight cultural diversity and the importance of learning new languages, in order to improve communication and mutual understanding of peoples and present them as an important aspect of developing personal values.

Workshop participants agreed that the proverb „the more languages you know, the more you are a person“ is highly relevant and that learning new languages helps using new opportunities of the contemporary society and career development. In addition to the workshop, EU Info Centre organized a tombola and luckiest participants were awarded with valuable manuals and guidebooks for learning new languages.

Representatives of EU member states in Bosnia and Herzegovina, French Institute and Goethe Institute handed out materials and brochures about different languages, cultures and language courses and organized crash courses in eight different languages with the aim to promote language diversity and common values.

The European Day of Languages is traditionally celebrated on 26 September in 47 member states of the Council of Europe raising awareness through a series of gatherings and activities, of the importance of knowing foreign languages and a rich linguistic and cultural diversity in Europe.
