US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O’Brien is scheduled to meet today in Sarajevo with high-ranking government officials at the level of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

His meeting with the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as with the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, has been announced for today.

After that, O’Brien will give a speech at the Faculty of Political Science in Sarajevo about US priorities in the region.

The purpose of the visit, according to the announcement of the US State Department, is to emphasize the fact that functional, efficient and responsible democratic institutions at all levels of government are crucial for a better future for all citizens, both in the Republika Srpska and in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The State Department stated that O’Brien’s visit will emphasize the strong partnership between the US and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that it will confirm Washington’s support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and multi-ethnic character of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

O’Brien arrived in Sarajevo yesterday, and will stay until Saturday, February 3.
