Yesterday in Neum, a local fisherman caught Modrulj, a shark that is also known by the names modri kucak, blue dog, blue shark, or zupka.
As reported by the readers of hercegovina.info, it is a baby modrulj that weighs about 12 kilograms.
Such catches are not common in Neum, but they shouldn’t be either, because they are allowed to be caught only if they fall under the so-called accidental catches and must not be hunted in a planned or organized manner.
Modrulj sharks are not uncommon in the Adriatic Sea, but they are sharks that live in the depths and rarely come close to the shore. If they come close to the coast, it will mostly be in the winter months.
It is considered one of the most dangerous sharks in the world and the most dangerous shark in the Adriatic because, like a great white dog, it is attracted to blood, and by mistake, stalking prey such as fish, but also seagulls swimming on the surface of the sea, can attack humans.
In addition to being considered the most dangerous (along with the great white), many consider them the most beautiful sharks in the world.
It is a powerful animal recognizable by its torpedo-shaped body, which enables it to move through the depths of the sea at a speed of 35 to 90 km/h, which makes it one of the fastest sharks in the world. The long and pointed fins, snout and large eyes stand out on the body.
The teeth of this shark are triangular and jagged with sharp edges. This enables them to catch slippery fish and cephalopods. Their teeth grow throughout their lives, that is, as some fall out, others grow.
This type of shark got its name from the blue color of its body. On average, they grow between three and a half and four meters, and weigh up to 150 kilograms.
The blue shark is a shark that is very welcome as a catch on longlines and fishing nets, and due to overfishing, it is considered one of the most endangered shark species in the world, including in the Adriatic Sea, N1 writes.
