museumDoors of the National Museum are finally opened to all citizens of our country. Employees of the museum are not hiding their happiness for the opening of the institution, which represents part of the national identity of B&H.

Ines Tanović-Sijerčić, coordinator of the project of the Association Akcija, said that the opening of the National Museum of B&H means that one shame of B&H finally came to an end.

“The National Museum of B&H, as the most important cultural institutions in this country, finally opened its doors to all citizens. This is a great victory of the citizens of this country,” said Sijerčić.

She added that the situation in culture sector is very hard, not only in B&H but also all over the Europe, since the allocations for culture are getting smaller from year to year.

“Our problem is the fact that there is no money ever. Culture is always on the last place, and the first to be cut when budgets and money have to be redirected to something else,” said Sijerčić.

Sijerčić also emphasized that the culture of visiting cultural institutions is not nourished in B&H, and that the special concern represents the fact that the society is raising new generations who do not even know where buildings of cultural institutions actually are.

“Possible way to change this might be putting mandatory visits to cultural institutions in syllabuses. Thus, something that will oblige students to watch theater performances and to visit museums. I hope that this positive energy that was created will not disappear. I hope that people will continue to visit the museum as they did before, “said Sijerčić.

Saliha Alijagić, who is working in the National Museum for 8 years, said that the closure of the museum was painful for all of its employees.

“We are happy because the museum opened its doors to all citizens. This is a great thing, not just for us, but for the whole country. As the flag and the coat of arms, the Museum is the symbol of our country as well,” said Sijerčić.
