Papal Address on the Occasion of Christmas

pope-francis-christmasIn his Christmas message, Pope Francis expressed hope for peace in the world caught up in war and terrorism, and he asked from people to think about immigrants, refugees and those affected by the economic instability caused by the “worshiping of money”.

Pope Francis asked the Palestinians and Israelis to find courage and set aside the hatred and revenge, and to write a new page of history.

The traditional Urbi et Orbi papal address is related to war, violence, and suffering, in the time when there should be harmony and peace which symbolize the newborn Jesus Christ.

“I wish peace for those who have lost their dear ones to brutal terrorist attacks which sow fear and death in the hearts of many countries and cities,” said Pope Francis while addressing around 40.000 people gathered at the Square of Saint Peter.

Security measures were increased during Christmas weekend in Italy and Vatican after the Italian police killed the persons suspected of being responsible for the attack on the Holiday Market in Berlin.

“This message of today goes to the end of the Earth to reach all people, especially those frightened by war and conflicts which seem to be stronger than the desires for peace,” said Pope Francis from the balcony of the Saint Peter’s Basilica.

Pope Francis invited for peace in Syria and requested urgent help for the exhausted population of Aleppo.
