Parliament of FBiH adopted a Law that prohibits Construction of Small Hydroelectric Power Plants

The House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted the Law on Amendments to the Law on Electricity, which prohibits the construction of small hydroelectric power plants with an installed capacity of up to and including 10 MW, and enabled it to enter into force on the eighth day after its publication in the Official Gazette of the Federation of BiH.

With the new paragraph in Article 78, it is specified that the issuance of energy permits for small hydropower plants, except for those on gravity water mains, is suspended.

Also, it was explained why it was decided that a small hydropower plant (MHP) is a hydropower facility with an installed capacity of up to and including 10 MW. The difference between hydropower plants and small hydropower plants is in the installed power.

The threshold power that divides hydropower plants into small hydropower plants varies from country to country. In Europe, the capacity of 10 MW of installed power is increasingly accepted as the upper limit, which was supported by the European Small Hydropower Association (ESHA) and the European Commission.
