Parts of BiH paralysed by Winter Storm

Some parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) have been paralyzed by the winter storm accompanied by heavy snowfall falling continuously on Sunday, local media reported Sunday.

Due to the snow constantly falling, traffic is maintained slowly on the roads in the central and eastern parts of the country, especially on the roads leading from the BiH’s capital Sarajevo towards Rogatica, some 65 km east, and towards Banja Luka,  190 km north. Low temperatures contribute to the formation of ice, especially in mountain areas and on bridges.

According to the Federal Hydro Meteorological Institute (FHMZ), less snow is expected to fall in the major part of BiH in the following days.

“Snow will fall on Tuesday but mainly in the central and eastern parts of BiH, and in the evening, at the far northeast of BiH, there is a possibility of rain,” meteorologist Ibrahim Hadzismajlovic told the local media.

Snow and ice continue to obstruct the normal traffic flow on majority of roads in BiH, especially on the roads leading to villages. Travel restrictions for trucks are in place throughout the country. Hundreds of villages throughout the territory of BiH remain cut off under the heavy snow.

The Cantonal communal public enterprise “KJKP RAD” appealed to the drivers in their statement to adapt their way of driving to the road conditions and be aware of the ice on road.
