The Special Department for the Suppression of Corruption, Organized and Intercantonal Crime of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office (POSKOK) took over the case related to the tragedy in Donja Jablanica, where 19 people died in the floods in October 2024.

“POSKOK has taken over the case of Donja Jablanica. The case will be the absolute priority of this department. The acting federal prosecutor has assigned the case and is familiar with it,” this department of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office announced today.

The investigation into the responsibility for the suffering of the locals was previously conducted by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, and the case relates to floods and a rock fall from a nearby quarry that buried the area.

During the investigation so far, one legal entity, i.e. a company, and four persons have been investigated due to suspicion of abuse of position or authority in connection with criminal acts, serious cases of causing general danger, environmental pollution and negligent work in the service.

It was said earlier that the case could be taken over by POSKOK, and the cantonal prosecutor’s office had submitted documentation. However, at the beginning of this year, the case was returned to the Prosecutor’s Office of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton due to technical deficiencies in the file.

POSKOK then clarified that during the review of the documentation, it was determined that certain formal deficiencies should be eliminated, a new and corrected list of files should be created, their sorting performed, and the complete case resubmitted for decision.

After the cantonal prosecutor’s office resubmitted the technically arranged case, POSKOK has now undertaken further work on the case of Donja Jablanica.
