The president of the Organizing Committee for the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, Hamdija Fejzic, confirmed that preparations for the commemoration are proceeding according to the planned schedule.

“On May 15th, we have a scheduled meeting of the Organizing Committee at which we will adopt the final program for marking the 30th anniversary of the genocide. Although we have a lot of work, we will try to mark this anniversary of the genocide in the best possible way, just as the victims deserve – dignified,” Fejzic emphasized.

With various activities, the 30th anniversary of the genocide will be commemorated around the world this year.

“The United Nations (UN) adopted the Resolution on the genocide last year, and we as the Organizing Committee have the obligation to coordinate the organization of the commemoration of the anniversary both in Europe and around the world. This year, a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Denis Becirovic, has also joined the commemoration. We have formed a coordination body which is mainly a support to the Organizing Committee to better respond to the tasks ahead of us,” Fejzic explained.

The president of the Subcommittee “Peace March 2025” Suljo Cakanovic stated that preparations for this activity, which pays tribute to the victims of the genocide, are proceeding intensively and according to plan. He states that in the coming period the route will be arranged.

“This is a preliminary inspection, and the final inspection is expected to take place at the end of June. Praise to all the students supporting this event, who have all these years performed their duties admirably, and there is no doubt it will be the same this year. In the Municipality of Sapna, a meeting of the ‘Peace March’ subcommittee and the logistics subcommittee was held with all actors involved in the realization of the ‘Peace March’, with the aim of inspecting and spatially planning the participants’ overnight camps,” Cakanovic emphasized.

In the Memorial Center in Potocari, 6.765 victims of the genocide have so far been buried, while 250 victims have been buried in local cemeteries by the decision of surviving family members.

The UN General Assembly adopted in May last year the Resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica, according to which July 11th will be marked as the International Day of Reflection and Remembrance of the Genocide in Srebrenica in 1995.
