Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Mladen Ivanic said after the meeting with the President of Montenegro Filip Vujanovic, who is on a two-day official visit to BiH, that these two countries have no open issues.
He believes that relations between BiH and Montenegro are the best in the region, and he particularly reminded that they were the first ones to sign the Agreement on borders without any problems, and they also share views on the future.
Ivanic confirmed that they should work in the setting of joint controls, with which the good relations between the two countries would be further demonstrated.
He expressed the hope that they will sign the Agreement on social security soon, from which will benefit the citizens of BiH and Montenegro.
He also noted that Montenegro made significant steps in economic terms, especially when it comes to the EU, and he called Montenegro the driver of the entire region towards that direction.
At the meeting was also discussed the Adriatic-Ionian road and pipeline from Azerbaijan that is supposed to pass through this area and they expressed the hope that relations between the two countries will be improved in all areas, from culture to economics.
Vujanovic also emphasized that the signing of the Agreement on borders between BiH and Montenegro, the first of such agreements after the dissolution of Yugoslavia, represents an indication that this kind of issue can be solved by mutual agreement.
The President of Montenegro emphasized that this country will support BiH on its European path, but he also noted that they support the accession of BiH to NATO.
“Membership in NATO means greater security and it has important economic dimension. This means more investments, better credit rating, a greater number of tourists and more economic effects,” stated Vujanovic, and expressed hope that Montenegro will officially become a member of this alliance on the upcoming summit of NATO.
He concluded that it is necessary to solve relations between the countries with dialogue, especially considering the fact that everyone in the region experience the past differently.
He said that it should be left to the International Court of Justice to do their job when it comes to the application for revision of the judgment of the International Court of Justice in the case of BiH against Serbia.
He reminded that it is an unnecessary to comment on that issue at this stage because it is still under consideration, said Vujanovic, the question whether Sakib Softic is authorized agent of BiH in that court.
“If I commented on that issue before application, I would stay with it, but since the issue was treated as a procedure, I think I should not comment on it now,” stated the President of Montenegro.
He noted that countries in the region have different opinions in relation to the events from the past, but the current relations and common prosperous future should not be jeopardized.
“We have to get used to the fact that we live with different visions of some events from the past, but also that they must not endanger our present and future relations. Coexistence of differences in comparison with the same is necessary for this region,” said Vujanovic.
