13101571_1762227157347294_1419072095_nAustralian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull visited Bosnian community in Australia last week.

Visit of the Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull was held in the BiH cultural and recreation center (BHKRC) in Perth, the capital of Western Australia, the westernmost point of this country. At the same time, this was the result of many years of loyalty of the Bosnian community in Perth to local and state politics.

Prime Minister Turnbull was accompanied by a member of the Federal Parliament for Cowan Luke Simpkins and Senator for Western Australia David Johnston, great friends of the Bosnian community in Western Australia.

“It was a day when all compliments were given for good organization of welcome by the Bosnian community in Perth. Everyone were honored with 20-minute speech that the first man of Australian government held, respected Malcolm Turnbull, also a president of the Liberal Party, in which he thanked BiH community and its good organization.

About 250 Australians, besides numerous members of the Bosnian community in Perth, attended this meeting, so that this event had a multicultural character as well.

If it is known that the Bosnian community in one of the youngest and smallest ones (50,000 members), then this visit has real historical value, as it is the first visit of such high rank to the Community. Also, it puts in the context that the present Prime Minister is building good relations in cooperation with ethnic communities in Australia with a lot of sensitivity. This is also included in early stages of the election campaign.

The atmosphere of meeting, conversations and farewell was at the highest level, to which can be added the offer of authentic Bosnian cuisine: several kinds of pies, hurmasica (authentic Bosnian sweet), baqlava (Bosnian sweet with wallnuts), for which were responsible 20 members of BHKR Centre in Perth.

“Let’s wish more meetings of this kind, because Bosnians and Herzegovinians have a reputation of exemplary ethnic communities in Australian society, among many older and larger communities,” as emphasized on behalf of the Australian Union of BH associations.
