Former Prime Minister of the Republika Srpska Rajko Kasagić has died at the age of 84. Kasagić was a member of the first convocation of the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska, and in late 1995 and early 1996 he served as Prime Minister of the Republika Srpska.
He was born on 15 October 1942 in Razboj, Srbac Municipality. During his political career, he was active in the institutions of the Republika Srpska, where, among other things, he served as President of the Executive Board of Banja Luka, and was a member of the High Representative’s Commission for the Implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement.
In The Hague, he testified as a defense witness for convicted war criminal Momčilo Krajišnik.
He began his academic career after completing his law studies. He received his master’s degree from the Faculty of Law in Banja Luka in 1987 with the defense of his thesis “Defects of Goods”, while he received his doctorate in 1999 from the Faculty of Law in Niš, where he defended his thesis “Arbitrary Resolution of International Trade Disputes”.
He worked in the companies “Radnik” in Gradiška and “Jelšingrad” in Banja Luka. He was also elected as an occasional judge of the Court of Associated Labor of Bosnia and Herzegovina for two terms.
After the first multi-party elections, he was elected as a deputy in the Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and then in the National Assembly of Republika Srpska. He also served as the Secretary of the Secretariat for Inspection Affairs of the Municipality of Banja Luka.
During his political engagement, he was a member of the Serbian Democratic Party.
In the academic community, he advanced through the ranks of assistant professor, associate and full professor at the Faculty of Economics in Banja Luka. He was also engaged in several higher education institutions, including the Faculty of Economics in Brčko, the University of East Sarajevo, and the International University in Travnik.
Since 2020, he has served as the rector of the International University in Travnik, Klix.ba writes.
