Savings of citizens of BiH is constantly increasing each year, and it reached a record amount at the end of 2016.

According to the data from the Agency for Deposit Insurance, in 23 banks that are in the insurance program, the total savings of citizens on the day of the 31st of December 2016 amounted to a total of 10.87 billion BAM.

This represents an increase of over half a billion BAM in comparison to the same period last year since the total savings of the citizens of BiH at the end of 2015 amounted to about 10.2 billion BAM.

That our citizens are leaving money for “rainy days” is proved by the fact that since 2008, total savings were increased by almost six billion BAM.

As stated from the Agency for Deposit Insurance, all deposits up to 50,000 BAM are insured at the moment.

“All deposits that reach this amount are absolutely secured and covered in member banks under the Law on Deposit Insurance in banks of BiH, through the Fund for Deposit Insurance,” as stated from this state agency.

They added that the amount of 50,000 BAM is the largest amount of insured deposit, together with interest.

Head of the Service for Public Relations of the Central Bank of BiH Zijada Kovac noted that the increase in deposits from individuals and non-financial private enterprises is evident in recent years.

“In the last three years, total deposits were increased by an average rate of 7.45 % per year. According to the Central Bank, total deposits of all domestic sectors in BH banks amounted to 17.91 billion BAM at the end of January 2017,” said Kovac.
