An investigator from the Special Department for War Crimes is on the ground in the forest above the town of Čarakovo near Prijedor, where he is coordinating the work of authorized officials participating in the exhumation process on the orders of the acting prosecutor.

A representative of the Institute for Missing Persons (IMO) of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a forensic pathologist, as well as members of the RS MoI, Police Station Prijedor, are also present on the ground, who secure the location.

After the exhumation, the remains will be transferred to the Commemorative and identification center in Šejkovača near Sanski Most for forensic-medical and criminal-technical processing, as well as the extraction of bone samples in order to determine the identity of the victim using the DNA method.

According to preliminary information, the found remains belong to a victim of Bosniak or Croat nationality, from the locality where a large number of people were hiding in the forest in 1992.

After the identity has been established through DNA analysis, the family of the missing person will be notified, and the final identification will be made, announced the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH.
