The Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milanko Kajganić and officials of the Special Department for War Crimes met with the Chief Prosecutor of the IRMCT Serge Brammertz and his associates.

They discussed the work and activities of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH in the prosecution of war crimes cases, achieving regional cooperation in the fight against impunity for war crimes, searching for missing persons, cooperation with associations of victims and victims from all over BiH and other topics from the scope of work of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and the Prosecutor’s Office at the IRMCT.

Officials of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH informed prosecutor Brammertz about the plan and dynamics of working on cases, filing indictments and making prosecutorial decisions in war crimes cases until the end of 2024, as well as the activities for the implementation of the State Strategy for working on war crimes cases and the transfer of less complex cases to prosecution by the prosecutor’s offices of both entities and Brčko District.

One of the topics of the meeting was related to the cooperation of the prosecutor’s office of the region in the work on cases, so the officials of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH sent a request to the prosecutor Brammertz and his office to help in the further processing of cases in which, due to procedural or other reasons, there was a stoppage in the work, considering the fact that the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH is interested in the full development of regional cooperation in order to prevent impunity for war crimes in the region , especially cases against persons falling under the Standard Designation “A”, received from the Prosecutor’s Office at the ICTY, in which suspects or accused persons are hiding from extradition in the countries of the region.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Special Department for War Crimes stress their full commitment to the fight against impunity for war crimes in the coming period, with the support of the Prosecutor’s Office at the IRMCT as an international institution and true partner in this area, announced the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
